Hahndorf Immersed – SA’s Favourite Artisan Festival Kicks Off This Sunday In Hahndorf

The countdown is on – the state’s favourite artisan festival kicks off on the first day of Spring with a jam-packed, month-long program made up of more that 40 intimate events for all tastes and ages.

Starting with Father’s Day events this Sunday, through to bespoke experiences offered throughout the month of September, and finishing off with plenty to do over the school holidays – this event has something for everyone.

Carolyn Cattrall, Chairperson of Hahndorf Business & Tourism Association said Hahndorf has a rich lineage of artisan culture that forms the perfect backdrop for this popular event.

“This festival celebrates our unique traders and tickets sales have already surpassed last year totals. From leathersmiths, candle makers, artisan cheese and chocolate, journalling, floristry and a plethora of art related experiences – there really is something for everyone in our beautiful village,” she said.

Event seekers of all ages and tastes can expect brand new events to join last year’s favourites, all of which fall under one or more of the six event categories: food & drink, art & craft, family fun, fashion & beauty, history & story-telling, workshops & masterclasses or if you simply love a free event.

Starting with Father’s Day events like: deluxe lunches at crowd favourites like Beerenberg and Sidewood Estate; ‘Brandy & Belgian Chocolate Tasting’ at Hommes Uniques, where you will enjoy a range of brandies paired with handcrafted Belgian chocolates; an opal cutting demonstration at the Opal & Gemstone Studio where you will get to take home your very own cut and polished stone; or, take part in an hour of travelling, sipping and learning the history of Somerled Wines via taste with their intimate tasting session.

This year’s Festival also offers a variety of brand new and engaging activities for all ages. Families can indulge in a sweet pretzel decorating class at The Haus, where participants create three custom treats to enjoy on-site or take home. At Sidewood Estate, the “Sabrage, Blooms, and Brunch” event provides a luxurious experience with sabrage lessons, bouquet-making, and a sparkling brunch. 3 Wishes offers a workshop where attendees can craft their own personalized roll-on perfume, creating a unique fragrance to take home. Additionally, Beerenberg is hosting an indulgent high tea with all the country charm the Farm has to offer, with a range of decadent homemade sweet treats, coffee and tea.

These new events complement festival favourites like the personalized dog collar workshop at the Hahndorf Leathersmith, where you can craft a custom collar for your pet using premium leather, with guidance from expert artisans. Enjoy an afternoon at The Cedars with tea, coffee, sparkling wine, and gourmet home-baked treats. For couples, Somerled Wines offers wine tastings, nibbles, and a historic tour. The Fill Your Cup series at Same But Different Café by Storison lets you carve reusable stamps while enjoying your favourite drink and light bites.

Finish off with some great school holiday events that the kids will love! If you’re looking for something to do during the school holidays, some family-friendly events include: a kids tote bag workshop at the Hahndorf Academy. Using colourful paint markers and sparkles to create your own party animal tote, this hands-on activity is perfect for kids aged 6-12. Or, enjoy a warm farm welcome at the Beerenberg Farm with their ‘Taste of Beerenberg’ event where you can enjoy a savoury platter, the famous Beerenberg scones, and their delicious house made ice cream.

“This year’s event program is as diverse as our community, offering something for everyone. The overwhelming positive feedback from both eventgoers and traders is a testament to its success. Some experiences feature one-time only, whilst others occur daily, but all events are intimate—so be sure to act quickly to avoid missing out,” said Cattrall.
