Goran Bregović Announces 2025 Australian Tour

Arts Projects Australia has today announced the return of Balkan powerhouse and Yugoslavian rockstar Goran Bregović & His Wedding & Funeral Band to Australia in March 2025 – performing at the Sydney Opera House, WOMADelaide, Her Majesty’s Theatre as part of the Adelaide Festival and Hamer Hall at Arts Centre Melbourne.

Renowned for his eclectic musical style and dynamic fusion of Balkan folk, rock, and classical influences, Goran Bregović & His Wedding & Funeral Band (Serbia) has forged a unique sound that is both universal and unmistakably his own, with genre-defying performances that have captivated audiences world-wide.

With roots in Sarajevo – a city of Catholic, Orthodox and Muslim influences – Bregović draws on a wealth of musical traditions with iconic anthems such as Bella Ciao, Kalashnikov and In the Death Car exemplifying his trademark soundscapes.

Starting as the frontman of the legendary Yugoslav rock band Bijelo Dugme, Bregović quickly became a cultural icon, selling millions of albums and leading a rock revolution across Eastern Europe. After disbanding the group in 1989 as nationalism swept through the region, Bregović’s musical journey expanded. His collaborations with artists such as Iggy Pop, Scott Walker, and the late Rachid Taha further cemented his reputation as a genre-defying composer and performer.

Combining his traditional Wedding and Funeral Orchestra with electronic elements and Balkan brass, Bregović’s music transcends borders and identities. His sound, instantly recognisable yet ever-evolving, blends rock, classical, and world music. With over 3,000 live performances worldwide, Bregović continues to connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds, crafting a universal language through music.

Performing a spectacular showcase of music that celebrates the diversity of cultures, beliefs, and traditions, Goran Bregović & His Wedding & Funeral Band’s Australian tour will treat audiences to a journey through his storied career—from his rock roots to his groundbreaking fusion of Gypsy, folk, and orchestral music

Speaking on the Australian tour, Goran says:  ‘It is always a great pleasure to perform in Australia, where I feel special energy and love between the audience and myself. I look forward to meeting you all again in 2025.
