Markus Hamence is in The Jungle Room with Tomáš Kantor
Tomáš Kantor (they/he) is a trailblazing multidisciplinary performer known for their vibrant presence across theatre, music, and cabaret. Trained at the Victorian College of the Arts and RADA in London, Tomáš combines classical flair with bold, contemporary storytelling. Their resume is a dazzling mix: from Chino in West Side Story (Opera Australia) to touring with Bell Shakespeare in Twelfth Night as Feste. They’ve graced stages in productions like The Inheritance, The Lovers, and Next to Normal, while also performing as a musician, writer, and voice artist. Their work often bends genres and defies convention, echoing a deep love for literature, philosophy, and queer performance.

Their breakout solo show, SUGAR, written by Ro Bright and directed by Kitan Petkovski, thrust Tomáš into the spotlight in 2024. The gender-fluid, flamboyant cabaret about a “twink” navigating transactional relationships became an instant critical darling, earning Green Room nominations and rave reviews. SUGAR was hailed as “one of the greatest performances of the year” and likened to icons like Meow Meow and Paul Capsis. It toured nationally and is now set for a bold run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe. With razor-sharp wit, electric stage presence, and fearless vulnerability, Tomáš Kantor is fast becoming one of Australia’s most exciting and original performance voices.
