In February of 2025, acclaimed Tasmanian musician Pete Cornelius released his new album Southern – his 5th release under his own name, and 12th release to date.
Whether its 5 x lucky or 12 – the Americana/Roots/Blues tinged album has been a huge success – hitting #1 on the ARIA Australian Country Albums chart on debut,#2 on the AIR Australian Music Charts, and is still sitting on top of ABARAC (Australian Blues & Roots Music Airplay Charts) more than 2 months after its release.
Sold out launch shows around Tasmania, alongside strong media coverage and airplay around the country has seen demand for mainland Australian live performances – so the agreeable Cornelius was more than happy to oblige, booking a select run of Victorian and South Australian shows.
Pete Cornelius is a proud Tasmanian through and through. So much so that his new album SOUTHERN is a collection of songs drawing on much of that Tasmanian heritage. Pete’s inspiration for lyric, harmony and rhythm continues to draw from the surroundings of the landscape and the stories within.
Pete also wanted to make it purely within lurtruwita / Tasmania – using local artists, colleagues and mates to help capture the essence of island life – Southern Life.
