State Theatre Company South Australia are thrilled to share some extraordinary news.
Last night, South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, along with Arts Minister Andrea Michaels and ABC Chair Kim Williams AM, announced a landmark partnership to create a brand-new Arts & Media Hub in the heart of the CBD.
The deal will see the ABC move from its current outdated headquarters at Collinswood to the Tapangka development site on Franklin Street and will become the new home to the State Theatre Company South Australia, along with two other great South Australian cultural organisations, the State Opera South Australia and Country Arts SA.
The Arts & Media Hub will be located at the former Adelaide Bus Station site on Franklin Street. It will create a vibrant new cultural centre in the heart of the CBD, just a short walk from Her Majesty’s Theatre.
For us, this means something incredibly important:
– It means purpose-built rehearsal rooms and creative spaces.
– It means studios designed to develop bold new work.
– It means deeper collaboration with some of South Australia’s leading cultural organisations.
The investment of $51 million towards our new home will ensure South Australians have ongoing access to quality theatre, opera and arts programming from across the state for the future.
Tapangka will also allow for residential and commercial developments, providing CBD residents and workers with daily exposure to the finest works we produce. It will be a portal for all South Australians to experience, participate in, and engage with the arts in ways they have never been able to before.
This exciting new development marks a major investment in South Australia’s cultural future. They can’t wait to share more as plans unfold.
