Maytide Theatre Company proudly presents the world premiere of It Is Well with My Soul, an original musical written by Adelaide locals inspired by a true story of hope, hardship, resilience, and healing. Opening this February as part of the 2026 Adelaide Fringe, this moving new work blends stunning original music with heartfelt storytelling to explore how faith and community can carry us through life’s fiercest storms.

Set in the wake of personal and collective tragedy, the musical follows Anna and Horatio Spafford, and their family, as they rediscover community and connection through their faith, culminating in the establishment of the American Colony in Jerusalem. Their story encompasses the events of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, to the loss of their four daughters from the SS Ville du Havre shipwreck just two years later in 1873.

Originally written by Adelaide based David Maegraith, adapted by Andrew Broadbent and Ally Gum, with music by Alana Lymn, Maytide’s It Is Well with My Soul brings together a passionate ensemble of emerging and established creatives across Adelaide.

Audiences can expect evocative original songs, powerful choral harmonies, and dynamic staging that reflects a powerful original story based on the life of the man that penned the now-famous hymn, “It Is Well with My Soul”.

The work is the first of the company’s, with a mission to build a passionate and inclusive community focusing on theatrical methods or storytelling and emotionally connecting to our audiences.

It Is Well with My Soul will premiere at Blackwood Memorial Hall before transferring to The Parks Theatre for its Fringe season. Performances run from February 21st to March 14th, 2026, with all tickets available via FringeTIX
