Summer fun is guaranteed with a variety of exciting, engaging, and educational activities for young people at Adelaide Festival Centre this coming December and January. Whether it’s showcasing local talent, exploring the world of musical theatre, celebrating New Year’s Eve or gaining hands-on experience in the performing arts, there is something for everyone.
Kick off your summer activities with an evening of local talent at Students Got Talent. Watch students from across South Australia showcase their singing, dancing, and performing skills on the Dunstan Playhouse stage this Saturday, December 7. Students have a chance of winning up to $2,000 and prize recipients will be chosen by a panel of judges including local performer and cultural ambassador Xueqian (Chien) Zhang, Carclew Music Specialist Nick O’Connor, Arabana and Yawuru singer-songwriter Nathan May, StudyAdelaide’s Alessandra Francia and Adelaide Cabaret Festival’s Executive Producer Isobel Marmion. Celebrate New Year’s Eve with the whole family at Dunstan Playhouse and enjoy our fun-filled, family-friendly party. Enjoy a private, fenced off viewing platform for the Elder Park fireworks, food stalls and a child-friendly DJ as well as roving performers, face painting, circus workshops and arts and crafts activities. The popular On Stage January Summer School returns throughout January and is open to all aspiring young performers in South Australia aged between 8 to 17 years. The program, which is in its 9th year, nurtures artistic talents with a variety of courses led by industry professionals and offers a supportive space to explore various genres of the performing arts including acting, musical theatre, dance, and singing.
For those interested in the magic that happens behind the scenes, Adelaide Festival Centre is offering the opportunity for young people to gain hands-on experience in technical production, including lighting, sound, and staging in a new course called Introduction to Technical Theatre Workshop on Tuesday January 7.
